MAC Cosmetics - How to Achieve the Smokey Eye Look

You've seen the Smokey Eye look in magazines, photo shoots, and perhaps during a night on the town. Now you can achieve this look using MAC Cosmetics and a few tips and techniques found here.

What you'll need:

Foundation / Concealer
MAC Cosmetics Brush - Soft, such as the MAC 224 Brush
MAC Brush - Smaller, soft brush
Medium Tone Eye Color - Try MAC Smokey Gray
Dark Tone Eye Color - Try Dark Matte Violet Shadow from MAC
Highlight - Try a Shiny, Pale Pink

Instructions to Achieve the Smokey Eye Look using only MAC Cosmetics tools and make up:

Use foundation or concealer on the eye lid. This will help the eye color stick to your eye and create a bolder effect.

Start with your medium tone MAC eye shadow, such as a smokey gray. Using a medium sized, soft brush, such as the MAC 224 brush, sweep your eye color across your eye lid.

Apply a darker eye shadow, such as the MAC Dark Matte Violet Shadow, using a smaller cosmetics brush. Apply the eye color to the outer corner and inner corner of the eyelid.

Now it's time for the highlight. Apply a lighter color, preferably something with shimmer such as a shiny pale pink, using a small cosmetics brush to the center of the eye lid by pressing lightly.

Softly buff the darker and lighter colors together to blend the different shades. However, be careful not to over blend, as you'll just mix the colors together and ruin the effect.

Repeat the steps above when applying your eye makeup underneath your eye. However, be careful to use much less make up.

Voila! You have now achieved the smokey eye look using MAC tools and make-up!

Security Advice for Gold Jewelry, Diamonds, and Gemstones

For you to enjoy your treasures, they need to be somewhere close and accessible, but NOT in the Bedside Jewelry Box.

Although we DO advise a Jewelry Box on the Dresser and easily seen, BUT ONE CONTAINING SEVERAL PIECES OF JUNK JEWELRY. It is a well documented fact that Burglars nearly ALWAYS check the Bedroom First knowing that people hide things there.

In general terms we have discovered, through HUGE amounts of research, (Please don't write and ask us how we know such things) that your average Crim or Thug, doesn't know the difference between Gold or Plated items, Diamonds or Shiny pebbles of Glass.

In the dimly lit beam of a torch, a handful of Jewelry, stuffed into a pocket, stops them searching any further, and they leave without any more damage.

If it looks like gold, it must be gold... Right?

Well, NO! But this can work in OUR Favor.

So OCCASIONALLY buy that antique looking string of pearls (which we know are glass beads) from the local Op shop or Charity Church Bazaar, and salt it into your 'attractive' Junk items in the Jewelry Box on the Dresser.

Costume Jewelry CAN look a Million Dollars. Old Brooches in a Base metal and containing a 'Plastic' Cameo, can feel and seem to be worth all the trouble.

Help these poor people out. Do the right thing. Give them something to Steal, and they will leave you alone, next time.

But what about the Good Stuff?

If you do 'Hide' it somewhere in your home there are a couple of points we wish to discuss. Firstly: tell a trusted or close relative where they are.

Too many people hide things and then forget where they put them. Over the years it slips from memory and after they 'Cross Over' as John Edwards would say, they get tossed out with the rest of the rubbish never to see light of day again. Shame - Shame - Shame. Please tell someone.

Don't hide the items in extreme temperatures.

It has seemed that over the past decade or so, some people have been hiding things in the Freezer. This is NOT recommended as Gold and Silver items may survive, but some gemstones are sure to suffer.

Opal for example contains a great amount of water in their chemical make up. Freeze opal and you will NOT have anything with color left after a very short while. Pearls too, and most of the softer 'Organic' gemstones like Coral or Ivory or Amber will all be damaged by this process.

The Kitchen is a good place to hide things, as is the Laundry.

We have had some clients (friends of ours) who hide things in the Children's Toy room. As long as it can't be found or played with by the Kids, it is safe.

If you come home one day and the Darling Little Ones are wearing your best Diamond Jewelry, chances are you didn't hide it well enough. Under the Lego pieces, just doesn't cut it.

Regardless of whether you have your items hidden or in a 'Safety Deposit' style box or wall safe etc, you should still insure your items.

Understanding Dress Up Games

It is likely your child loves dress up games, but you might not be overly familiar with the concept. Dress up games appear to be simply an online form of paper dolls, but the depth of the fashion doll games is much deeper than you might initially see. The online dress up games are more like playing a game of virtual Barbies.

Creativity Online

Playing online often lacks creativity. While technical skills are certainly important, it is just as important to engage the portion of the brain that responds to color and design. Then, once you are reached an artistic level by creating fashions online an including relevant backgrounds and accessories, you can go a step further and be creative in your approach to how you use the dolls.

The dress up games allow you to design and then dress a base. The base is like a paper doll online, and there are hundreds of items available to place on your doll. Choose hair styles and colors, select eye color and make up. Then start picking clothing items. Layer clothing together to create a cohesive look and add coordinating accessories to help bring it all together. Finally, when your design is done, you can add a splashy background in many of the games, or even view the creation in 3D.

Once you have a doll created, your opportunities expand even more. You can save that doll on your computer to include in a poster or other print project later, or you can work with her more online. Many dress up games websites offer contests of one kind or the other. Get involved in one of these contests and you can stretch your creativity even further. Start by designing a doll and then create the story or background that goes along with it. There are rarely opportunities to create your own story like this. In most opportunities, the stories are created for you instead.

Playing Dress up Games

Your child likely loves the games because of the variety and opportunities presented through the games. There are many options of how to use the dolls and one of the favorites is to simply share the dolls with others online. Message boards and complete forums are dedicated to sharing dolls and creations. Your child might post her creation or use it in her avatar and allow others some feedback. Learning to work with others online in this format is a huge skill that will translate well into her future as well.

The best thing you can do, however, to understand the games is to play them yourself. Sit down at the computer with your child or on your own and search through her favorite girl game websites. Look for fun opportunities to dress up dolls and you might soon realize exactly why the games are so much fun for your child. After all, the creative streak and the high fashion sense your child enjoys is likely present in you as well - even if it is been buried under years of practicality.
