How to Save Money on Vitamins

In this article I'm going to discuss a very simple and basic tip that should allow you to save hundreds and possibly even thousands of dollars a year on vitamins.

Vitamins are an important part of most of our lives. Any responsible diet hinges on a steady supply of the all-important vitamins and nutrients that our bodies require. In our hectic helter-skelter fast-paced technology driven society, sometimes it's not as easy to get all the vitamins and minerals we need with diet alone.

So, many of us turn to a good old-fashioned multivitamin or multi-mineral every morning to pick up the slack and give our bodies the vitamins that we need.

The only problem is that many multivitamins are incredibly expensive and they may be so expensive that some people aren't able to even afford them. Hopefully this article will help you out in that regard.

I said I was going to discuss a tip but it's not really a tip - but more like a truth. But hey, truths are even better than tips...am I right?

So here is my vitamin truth for you... just about every vitamin supplement maker on the market today buys their raw vitamins from the same suppliers. When you get right down to it there are really just three or four major manufacturers of vitamins.

Those manufacturers are Roche, BASF, and Rhone-Poulenc. Those three companies alone produce 90% of the world's vitamins supply, that's right... 90%! So it really doesn't matter which brand of vitamin you buy in the store, the actual vitamins themselves are all coming from the same place.

That means you can buy the cheapest vitamins on the shelf, which are usually the store brand and not the fancy designer brand that cost five or six times more money. It doesn't even matter what the vitamin pill itself looks like; the guts of the thing, the actual vitamin content all comes from the same place.

There is one caveat though, how the actual raw vitamin is formulated can make an actual difference. What I'm talking about here is tablets versus gelcaps versus capsules and things like that. How the pill is formulated in that regard can make a difference in how well the vitamin actually dissolves in your body.

But of course, when in doubt just look at the label and search for "USP" which stands for US Pharmacopeia which is a standard for dissolve ability.

So there you have one very simple tip or truth when it comes to finding the absolute cheapest vitamins. Now you know what most people don't; that it doesn't matter who produces the vitamins because they're all being manufactured by the same three main companies so you might as well pay as little as you possibly can by buying the store brand or generic version.
