A Little Las Vegas in Your Bathroom

Bathrooms are getting bigger. Long gone are the days when an avocado coloured en-suite with a furry toilet lid passed for high style. Our bathrooms are more akin to Turkish baths, with an increasing array of bathroom accessories and furniture to help us create the perfect sanctuary. Now we can buy power jet showers, free standing baths and even steam rooms to help transform our bathrooms from the merely functional to the sublime.

And one place in the world known for its lavish extravagance is showing us all how to create bathrooms in style - Vegas. According to a feature in the Las Vegas Sun, hotels and clubs are not just delivering run of the mill toilet facilities but trendy 'ultra-lounges' that are vast, opulent and 'strive for sex appeal'. On the club scene it seems it's the bathrooms that are the life and soul of the party and what everyone is talking about.

Bathrooms have always been something of an obsession for women - in clubs, women attend the restrooms in pairs and groups. But in some of the bathrooms in Vegas, it's easy to see why they'd want to hang out there all night. The restroom at the Vanity club is 2,000 square feet. It's a bathroom that isn't just a bathroom but about glamour; elegant and chic, women can do their make-up in these bathroom ultra-lounges while sipping a cocktail. According to the Vegas local press, it isn't the clubs that are causing a big buzz - but their bathrooms.

The 'Vegas bathroom scene' is big business. The Vanity Club is the newest club from the ultra-hip Hard Rock Café. Its bathroom has been described as 'eye-dropping' complete with its own foyer with floor-to-ceiling mirrors and a round sofa beneath a glass globe chandelier. The bathroom may only have 11 actual loos and six sinks but it is a space that has gossiping in mind - an extension of the club - so that visiting the bathroom is a highlight of the night not a drag. Vanity's bathroom is just that - a temple to vanity with individually lighted vanity mirrors and red-velvet seats. The bathroom is so alluring that waitresses actually go in to take customer's drink orders.
